Our Multicultural Service Officers work with multicultural community groups, staff and other government departments.
They do this to:
promote and improve access to payments and services.
build relationships in the community and across government.
improve service delivery to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) people by understanding their needs.
provide support and assistance in complex cases.
help staff to communicate with CALD people through language services.
raise awareness and competency of staff in servicing CALD people.
build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to raise the profile of multicultural services.
Multicultural Service Officers
Support for Newly Arrived Refugees
Services Australia provides payments and services to newly arrived refugees, humanitarian entrants and asylum seekers.
Our dedicated Refugee Servicing Team helps eligible customers claims Centrelink payments and enrol in Medicare. We also provide information about their rights and obligations. We can also help with referrals to:
English language programs
Digital services and online support
Education, training and employment services
Specialist Services Australia staff, such as Multicultural Service Officers, Social Workers and Financial Information Service Officers
Other government and community support services.
Information and help in other languages
Services Australia has free interpreting and translation services in over 200 languages, including international, Indigenous and Auslan languages.
People can let us know if they need an interpreter or a document translated when they call or visit us.
People can call 131 202 to speak to Centrelink in their language. This line is available Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
