Information Sessions
Within the first 12 weeks of arrival, individuals are supported through structured information sessions conducted by the MSO’s, designed to build foundational understanding of Australia’s service system.
These sessions are voluntary and delivered in a culturally responsive manner, often with access to interpreters or bilingual support where required. Sessions may be delivered face-to-face at a Services Australia service centre or online, providing flexibility to meet individual and community needs.
Stakeholders and individuals are encouraged to check with their nearest Services Australia location for session schedules and delivery options. Multicultural Service Officers can also work with organisations to facilitate sessions at community locations or worksites, supporting improved access for specific client groups.
Topics typically include:
Overview of income support payments, healthcare services, and family assistance
Obligations to notify changes in circumstances within required timeframes
Accessing support in preferred languages
How to contact and engage with government services
Income reporting requirements and introduction to Job Plans
Navigating online services, including myGov
Understanding Centrepay, financial management, and scam awareness
Information on additional payments, concessions, and broader supports
These sessions aim to build early confidence, reduce barriers to access, and support informed engagement with services.
